About the Artist

Raul Ruiz was chosen by the Heroes on the Concho Committee to create a bronze statue of a World War II era Army Air Corp Airman that is walking the tarmac toward his plane. Raul Ruiz is a renowned San Angelo, Texas-based sculptor and painter known for his West Texas-themed art, particularly bronze figures of sheep, ranchers, and animals. His notable works include the Angelo State University Ram & Ewe Statues, the Elmer Kelton statue at Stephens Central Library, and this new "Hero on the Concho" memorial statue. He owns and operates the Ruiz Studio & Gallery in downtown San Angelo.
